Hackers Steal Celebrity Surgery Photos

Hacked again

Another Day Another Hacked Company

The London Bridge Plastic Surgery (LBPS)

It seems a day does not go by without reports of some kind of organisation loosing its customer's sensitive data. The latest breach exposes some very sensitive data, and it does not come more sensitive than this. Hackers have broken into a London-based celebrity plastic surgery clinic, stealing pictures and other sensitive information. It has come to pass that many of these images are those of top celebrities as well as royals including photos of in-progress genitalia and breast enhancement, an investigation said. Police are investigating claims that the hackers stole the data from the London Bridge Plastic Surgery (LBPS) clinic well-liked by celebrity clients.

Dark Overlord

A hacker group referred to as Dark Overlord is reportedly to blame for the breach at London Bridge Plastic Surgery (LBPS) that could potentially expose sensitive information of numerous celebrities. LBPS, based in Marylebone, described the hackers as "highly sophisticated" and said they had targeted medical providers in the US in the past year.

According to Scotland Yard, detectives in the Met's Organised Crime Command are investigating, but so far there have been no arrests or charges.

The hacking group, which first appeared in 2016, has already been connected with disseminating information to blackmail people or organizations, including schools, medical centres as well as a production firm working with Netflix.

"Dark Overlord are both technically strong and they've got good communication skills," said Nick Bilogorskiy, senior director of threat operations at Cyphort Labs, a cybersecurity firm in Santa Clara, California. "The brand is notorious."

The Hackers Claim

The hackers claim the latest cyber attack of LBPS was successful, with one Dark Overlord representative telling the Beast that they "have TBs [terabytes] of this s---. Databases, names, everything," and claimed "There are some royal families in here."

The Dark Overlord claims that it acquired many graphic and close-up pictures of the clinic's patients, some showing surgery on male and female genitalia and other photos featuring patients post-operation. Some pictures reportedly in addition have faces.

In what appears to be among the biggest photo type security breaches in recent memory, the hackers also threatened to distribute the graphic images of the patients of the clinic.

"We're planning to pitch it all up for everyone to nab," the hackers told the Beast. "The entire patient list with corresponding photos. The world has never seen a medical dump of a plastic surgeon to such degree."

LBPS Confirmed the Breach

LBPS confirmed the breach, saying "we believe that our security was breached and that data has been stolen" but remain unsure "what data has been compromised," LBPS has published a patient statement.

"We are horrified that they have now targeted our patients," the statement added. "Security and patient confidentiality has always been of the utmost importance to us. We invest in market-leading technology to keep our data secure and our systems are updated daily. We are deeply saddened that our security has been breached."

"We are profoundly sorry for any distress this data breach may cause our patients and our team are available around the clock to speak to anyone who has any concerns by calling 0203 858 0664."
